Editor's Note: on his own initiative, Ianek Regimbald is organizing the Circle Competition at Worlds this year, without support from the organizers. All I want to say is bragging rights are the best reward, so go get em! Read more for Ianek's announcement... -Eliot

RULES

1- BREAKDOWN

A- Levels
Qualification, quarterfinal, semifinal and final.

B- Circles
-3 to 4 players per Circle. (might be 5 in qualification)
-Players choose 1 footbag to use per Circle.
-Top seed chooses his location in the Circle.
-Lowest seed goes first, top seed goes last.
-Pass clockwise.
-2 player/Circle advance in quarterfinal and semifinal. 1 player advance in final.

C- Rounds
-2 rounds per Circle.
-Each round has a judging requirement:
     1st round: variety + personality
     2nd round: difficulty + personality
-Players rotate position between rounds.
-There is a 15 seconds break between rounds.

D- Turns
-A turn starts when a player receives the pass.
-Players must receive passes with their feet.
-Players may take a few seconds to get prepared with basics kicks and stalls.
-Once started, players must continu linking non-basic kicks and stalls.
-There is a mandatory passback for each turn from pass reception through 1st real move.
-A turn ends when a player drops or chooses to pass the bag.
-The referee will call the “last turn” of a Circle.
-Turns/round by level:
 qualification: 3 turns
   quarterfinal: 3 turns.
       semifinal: 4 turns.
              final: 5 turns.

2- PERFORMANCE

A- Judging
-Judging is purely subjective.
-At the end of a round, judges rank the players.
-All Judge’s ranks are added. Smallest number wins.

B- Judging criteria

1-Variety (first round):
-Wide range of components.
-Flipside count as a different component.

2-Difficulty (second round):
-Difficult moves.
-Difficult links.

3-Personality (both rounds):
-Tricks/components/links executed by only 1 player in a Circle.

4-Execution (tie breaker):
-Clean tricks.
-Accurate sets and timing.
-Good balance and posture.

C- Execution
-Execution is used as a tiebreaker inside each round.
-If a player is clearly better than others with the round requirement, execution should not affect his ranking.
-It should only “break the tie” when a judge can’t decide who was best at the round requirement.

3- OFFICIATION

A- Etiquette
For a fair and efficient Circle, all players must respect the official etiquette:

-Give good passes.
-No hand catches from a pass.
-No self-serves.
-Don’t freeze the bag mid-run.
-Don’t use basic kicks and stalls mid-run.
-Don’t distract other players.
-No unsportsmanlike conduct.

B- Penalty
-Warning.
-Loss of turn by immediate passing of the bag.

C- Referee’s responsibilities
-Make sure everyone agrees on a footbag.
-Give the first pass of a Circle.
-Keep track of number of turns left.
-Call last turn.
-Give the bag to the right player after a passing conflict.
-Make sure passbacks are respected.
-Penalyze disregard of etiquette

Hey Ianek, you are the man, making this circle contest! I think it's the best possible freestyle competition. But why you did't get any support from the organizers?
