Exactly. Plus, real communities are made with real people interacting in real time, not cyber space. If you want to experience superficial communities try footbag.org/forum or modified. It's not my intention to downplay either one of them. They both have something to offer. What? I'm not exactly sure. However, if it's a "real" community that someone wants, I do not recommend forums as the place to search for one.

"Yea. Ok. So what should I do if I want to join a 'real' community wise guy?" one might ask. I would suggest searching for and attending nearby footbag events (click on the "News" tab above for starters) or try setting up a footbag club of your own. That way, you can create and bring the event to your hometown thereby possibly strengthening the "real" community that you have created with you footbag club.

Re:Its been along time - 2006/05/17 02:00 word! Online communities are faux in general. It's much more valuable to get to know 10 people face to face than 1000 in cyberia, even if it's our beloved little footbag community. Not only that, but people are very different online from how they are in person. To reitterate Majet76's point, go to a tournament; you won't be disappointed. That and use footbag.org extensively.

^^^ Re: "Post edited by blitz"
I didn't really edit your post. I just removed a couple extra line breaks, because I don't like when posts take more vertical space than necessary. I won't be so anal next time, I promise. I didn't realize the software appends an "edited by" line when a moderator edits a post, otherwise I wouldn't have done it; thus taking up more vertical space. oops

Re: the forum's purpose - 2006/05/17 02:14 To address the concern about how to use this forum, it's not only for technical issues (support). It's also for *site-related discussion*. For example, let's say 'Joe Bob' wants to cover Worlds 2006- an inside look/journalisitc piece. He could post here and find a couple people who want to get involved. They can discuss ideas to make the best report(s) possible, e.g. video clips, daily blogging, interviews with the winners, photos, whatever! Then at worlds, they rendezvous and collaborate on the project, uploading their work at the end of each day. This is just one idea, and a very elaborate one at that. Use it for the betterment of footbag, just not to chit chat and waste time.

Another idea would be to ask people what moves they would like to see in the Tricks section (assuming you plan to make some move demos), or any tutorials/articles for the Know section, or to ask for feedback from others before publishing an article of some kind. It's really limitless. I just want to see people do more and talk less, and thus the forum is not intended to establish another pseudo-separate online community. There is one footbag community. We just use different websites. Now everyone take advantage of Flipsider!
