Best Tricks Contest
Statement of purpose: everyone likes big and impressive stuff and it will remains like that forever. Since “Sick 1/3” existed, it never really had a defined methodology. So i tried to give a complete structure to the “sick” competition format.
Overview: Players have a few tries to land their best tricks. Judges score difficulty, variety and execution of the landed attempt. The best score wins.
Categories:
- Best trick
- Best bs trick
- Best link
- Best bs link
- Best 3
- Best drill-4
- Best drill-6
(drill = A-B-A-B, A-B-C-A-B-C) (bs = both side)
How it works: -organizer chooses what categories he wants to do. -for each categories: -players gives 3 tricks to judges before competition starts. -judges gives a difficulty and variety score before competition starts (subjective). -players goes one by one on stage. -players have max 1 minute/trick. -Mc announces the tricks. -players have 3 tries/trick (for BS, 3 tries/side) -judges raises one hand when they consider an attempt not “clean”. -players can use extra tries to improve execution mark. - if so, they raises one hand to show they will attemp the same move again. -judges gives execution score for all landed tricks. (subjective) -judges add execution, difficulty and variety score to give final score/trick. -judges keep 1 trick/player for final ranking. (highest score)
Overall Best tricks winner: add rankings of all categories, lowest number wins competition. (Ties are possible)
Judging guideline:
Judges are looking for:
Best trick (difficult move) Best bs trick (difficult move) Best link (difficult link) Best bs link (difficult link) Best 3 (difficult moves and links + variety of moves and links) Best drill-4 (difficult moves and links) Best drill-6 (difficult moves and links + variety of moves and links)
-Note that variety score is only for Best 3 and Best Drill-6. -Note that difficulty of Best Link is only about the link itself and not moves. -Note that judging is all subjective.
Execution: -Cleanliness -Straight set -Smooth timing -Good balance and posture -Controlled Seal (handcatch is ok)
Difficulty: -momentum change -momentum stop -small window dex -small window stall -blind components -support foot translation -jump (symposium) -hight of set -degree of dex -unusual body position -etc.
Variety: -wide range of moves (components) -wide range of links -the use of both side -balance between toes and clippers
Scoring system: 0-none 1-poor 2-below average 3-average (good) 4-above average 5-very good 6-perfect
Other info: -3 judges -Judges uses specific judging sheet. -1 mc to call players and tricks. -rounds: it’s possible to have pools or qualification rounds. -stage dimension : 10 feet diameter area. -seeding : last seeded goes first, first seeded goes last.
So this is what i came up with, but like Circle contest, we need to test it to see what's good and what needs to be adjusted.
I'll try to have a downloadable version soon (with judging sheet).
I will run a Best tricks contest for the first time next week at MSJ2 (Montreal).
