K-Swiss Hacky Sack Commercial Big news, Vasek and I were cast for a K-Swiss shoe commercial, shot in South Africa, and the 30-second spot is now airing worldwide on TV, as well as online. Go to k-swiss.com, and click 'Europe' at the top. Yeah, actually when I say worldwide, I mean everywhere except the US- I guess people aren't ready for it there. Check out my photo album in the gallery, and read on for the full story...
Update1: now on YouTube
So here's the whole story: a very nice woman from San Francisco called me after seeing my Undefeated video, and she said K-Swiss might be interested in casting me for a shoe commercial. We went back and forth for a while, and it became more and more likely. At first they were casting just one "hacky sacker", but then I pitched using Caro as well, and they were very interested. They opened casting calls in other parts of the world, where they found Vasek Klouda. Luckily they still liked the idea of using two players, and the deal was set for the two of us.
K-Swiss Hacky Sack Screenshot We were flown to Cape Town, South Africa in November, 2006, where we were treated very well, and given a beautiful villa for a whole week. We had a couple days before the fitting (wardrobe), so Vasek and I checked out the city and beaches, and let the jet lag wear off. At wardrobe we met the crew and other cast- the director was really cool and very keen on having us improvise the whole commercial. So then the shooting day came- and for those of you who don't know, real film and commercial shoots often last 12 hours or more- so wake-up call was 4:30 am, and we were on set by 5:00 warming up. The set was awesome and the weather perfect, and we started going through the motions, getting the first shots.
The whole thing went pretty smooth and very low-stress. Nonetheless it was grueling, simply because it lasted 13 hours. The shoes were really cool looking- not made for footbag, so of course not optimal shred-gear- but Vasek had little trouble adapting (thanks to his super-ankles!) and I made do. 13 hours of shooting produced a lot of useable material, so it's a shame it got cut down to only one 30-second version. Of course it's the Vasek show- I mean it's Vasek- so I'm just thankful they didn't cut me out.
There's a lot more to tell, but I'm out of time. Enjoy, and please post your comments. Oh yeah, the commercial and shoe model is called "Flux"! We had nothing to do with that.
