Presenting one of the greatest footbag players of all time in a 7.5 minute video, Ryan Mulroney at his best. The first part of the video is Ryan's signature intense shred, edited to high impact music that compliments his style, followed by part 2: Ryan, in his own words (an uncensored interview).

A note about the video, I shot and edited this over 3 years ago, so it doesn't at all reflect my abilities as a filmmaker, but it's still a cool video that says a lot about the sport and the man who dominated it for so many years. This clip was originally intended to be part of the Eutopia project, but since I will probably never have time to finish that production, and I've been sitting on this video that whole time, you all deserve to finally see it. I had intended to use the interview (as well as all the others I shot) to tell a story, intercut with shred and other action, but since I never got to that part of the editing stage, I decided to just throw Ryan's whole interview on at the end. I will likely do the same for a number of players in the coming months.

Title: Great Work
Wow, fantastic! It's always fun to see something new, even if it's "vintage" footgae from a few years back. With a player of Ryan's caliber it could easily be passed off as recent footage! I was disappointed when Eutopia was put on the shelf, so it was an awesome treat to see this. I'm eagerly awaiting the other clips. Great work Mr. Piltz!

A bloody good video. Thanks a lot for making this, Ellis. And thanks for Ryan for being so good.

Hey Ellis, I loved this video :) It seems today that there is a growing rise in internet videos that are lauded as being really well edited when as far as I can see the editors have just put a group of clips together with music. Watching videos like yours where it is clear that more effort has been put in, that difference becomes apparent (not that there is anything wrong with thrown together vids, but they're clearly don't deserve the praise for their editing that hasn't really occurred). Ryan's always been my favourite player and it was fantastic to see such good quality and well shot footage. I liked the music selection too. Unfortunately for some reason I get a fatal error at the end of the interview every time (on the quicktime version) but I did have a power surge right as it finished downloading so it's probably a fault at my end.

If you don't mind me giving one small criticism, while I thought the shot with the interview which seemed to be keeping the wall of graf as a prominent feature to be cool, it got a little tiring quickly - I think filming the person being interviewed may have worked better. Of course as you say it's essentially an old video so maybe this is something you wouldn't do again. Experimenting with different things can also be a great way of learning what works and what doesn't too.

Overall it's a fantastic video - definitely deserves to be watched by everybody and it's a fantastic showcase of footbag and of your editing skills. If my skills at making videos was as good as yours I'd be ecstatic and no doubt yours are even better now. Props dude - it's always a pleasure to watch your work. :)

Great vid. Really cool to hear Ryan talk about the sport, and his own experience. Just silly footage in there, Ryan is too good.

Thank you all for your comments! I really didn't expect such positive feedback. It's very encouraging. Although I think most of you are too easy to please. ;)

Jeremy, thanks for your specific criticism. Yeah, I wasn't being very careful with my framing at the beginning of the interview for some reason; then a light bulb went off and I realized I better frame him in the shot better. :)

Although I shot and edited this at a time when I really didn't know what I was doing (in the filmmaking sense), it's always good to know how people react to my choices, even if I've already learned from my mistakes. Indeed it could have been a lot better, and knowing what I know now about composition, lighting, timing and so on, it would be. Thanks also for the kind words about my editing. I think it's really nothing special, but I guess compared to what people are used to, it's not too shabby.

Thanks again, everybody. All the best,
-E

I think you have just revived Flipsider singlehandedly. I started shredding just AFTER Ryan decided to stop. So i never really got to witness his madness. Now i understand his style, and personality. Thank you so much for the work you put in!

wow RM rules. I can never get enough of the "over head" footage. It reaveals so much of a players style/form. and LOL to the "F*#K that guy" scene! I can't tell you how many times I've said that to rude passerbyers.
With footage like that, quantity over quality EP. Put it out for us to see!!(though I suppose you have standards or something silly like that :p )
